As that spot of land was in sight
Columbus' heart began to take flight
He saw much hope for that spot of land
From the tall, swaying trees to the scorching, hot sand
This patch of land was more than what he thought
For the future holds hard wars to be fought
Town, villages, as far as the eye could see
For this is what it would come to be
All because of one man's brain
Took time to think, again and again
Against the odds and"scientific facts"
Ignoring the rudeness, name-calling and flack
He did what he did and followed his heart
Even though it could have torn him apart
