Confession

Sometimes the hardest part is learning how to stay.
You find excuses. You make up lies.
But really it's the memories that keep you away.

To you, the heartbreakers, who cannot slay
your wicked habits and learn to say goodbyes,
sometimes the hardest part is learning how to stay.

To you, the cheaters, whose hearts are made of clay,
you pretend not to hear their cries,
but really it's the memories that keep you away.

To you, the thieves whose minds I have tried to sway,
you choose not to listen, and never grow wise,
but sometimes the hardest part is learning how to stay.

To you, the liars who lead everyone astray,
you find it impossible to look them in the eyes
because, in truth, it's the memories that keep you away.

And to myself, since I used to think this just play,
I am disgusted at my own disguise.
The hardest part for me was learning how to stay
and it was the memories that kept me away.
