Covered Smiles

Finding the light in this dark time
Gives me hope to continue to abide
This lonely corner I cannot hide
Where smiles not covered has become a crime

A bright Elementary school Day
How the children used to play
Not how they worry in every way
With friendly connections that fade and decay
To miss seeing their teacher smile every day

High school days had washed away
Cannot go meet new friends today
While hollow distance turns to gray
As they grab their mask and stand away

College work is no different
Still striving to be magnificent
Staying home can become belligerent
With social space, life is now so distant
And a time where a mask will be persistent

Future career is vanishing
Hard to find a job worth pursuing
Finding opportunities is panicking
So little to do in this life we’re living

Finding the light in the dark world
Making it hard enough unfurled
Where smiles are covered
And everyone is so reserved
