Cracked Pavement

To crawl away to
A world untouched by time
Has always been my dream
Since I was merely nine
The second star on the right
That turned out to be
Nothing but a streetlight
With cracked pavement underneath
That cracked pavement was my playground
My place of fantasy
I flew to Neverland every day
It was just at the end of my street
Under a lamp post
With cracked pavement beneath
The bus was my ticket to anywhere
Magic kingdoms far, far away
The fairies who flew me there
Were the birds in my old park's tree
The dragons that I ran from
Really just cars on a busy street
With honking roars into the night
Sprinkling my dreams with sound
Of crunching wheels on
Cracked pavement beneath
