Creeps Across

a line creeps across my heart
and tightens I learned tonight
my heart cries for me
and I have been deaf till now
but today I hear its plea
to take care of me
the monitor gives out gentler waves
now that I've been quiet in bed
but that's not really it
the wailing that began in my chest
that rose to my neck and jaw
and descended to my arm
is only volcano-quiet
my heart bursts for attention
I don't know yet which way to turn
