Crow Calls

at that time
the crows flew at night
startled from their perch
a tall pine
I stood beside you then
a woman to comfort
to love
to listen
to guide
as I thought you stood beside me...
we laughed
startled by the sudden racket
and I gave no thought
that they crowed of change
under covers of darkness
failed to see the meaning
in their noisy movements
for I stood beside you then
as I thought you stood beside me
recently, they came again
outside my window
I had been awaiting this
they crowed
under cover of darkness
but this time
just before the dawn
a beautiful dawning
of a new day
I lay alone this time
awakened by their song
knowing their call
...was finally for me...
I sat alone
but guided
for there is a noise
in the deepest silence
it is the sound of chains breaking
...breaking me free...
this call I recognized
a dawning of what's to be
of you, they crowed in darkness
startled from their perch
high in a pine tree
had my ears of listened
I'd have heard their message
for never did you stand
for anything
never did you stand
and stand beside me
