Cruel World

Dear World,
The landscape and beauty is magnificent
The trees cover the surface protectively
But beneath the layer of safety is pain
There is a man who was laid-off
A widow who lost her husband
A child who was abandoned
A man drinking away his sorrows
A girl sleeping outside, alone
A hospital full of the sick
A teenager trying to belong
A girl taking all of her father's abuse
A mother who has lost all of her strength
A drug-addict, trying to get his fix
A single mother, trying to make things work
An elderly man, waiting to die
A homeless family, cold and lost
A girl who thinks the only choice is suicide
A boy who cries because he is bullied
A woman trying to cover up her depression
Why are you so unfair?
Why do you put up a façade?
Why do you let us down?
Why, World?
