Cry Not for the Dead of War

Cry not for the dead of war, child,
Cry not for the dead.
The dead live in a better place;
They live in Heaven with a benevolent King.

Cry not for the dead of war, child,
Cry not for the dead.
The dead do not live with the guilt;
They do not see their friends die every night.

Cry not for the dead of war, child,
Cry not for the dead.
They do not live knowing,
Knowing that they should have died, too.

Cry not for the dead of war, child,
Cry not for the dead.
Rather, cry for me, child;
Cry for the man who was too cowardly to stand and die.
