Dad

The day I feared has finally arrived
You have disappeared, taken from my side
I know it was never your choice to make
To assume the passage we all must partake
Only memories remain as we lay you to rest
Consumed by grief I cannot help but protest
Wishing to have you back in our lives
As I stood there saying my last goodbyes

Time stood still for what seemed like years
No matter how I tried, I could not end my tears
I lost my hero, my one, true best friend
I never imagined our time would ever end

Slowly, I accepted it was time for you to go
God was calling to bring you back home
You joined your fathers and the others who reside
Far in the heavens beyond the blue skies

I embraced this new truth and forged a new start
Constantly remembering you still live in my heart
Happiness surrounds me, just like it always had
It is my way of cherishing my beloved dad
