Dad

Pain, why can't you leave me alone? Why can't I pick up the phone?
What is next in my life? Who will I turn to now?
Come back, come back, I don't want you to go.

I am going to be a father now; you won't be able to see them grow.
My first love has left me, not for the same reasons.
I am getting married again, and you won't be there.

Remembering all the great times we had, all the sorrows, too.
You have inspired my life, more than any other could do.
Maybe I will just come join you there.

Why can't I hide from this pain, crawling into the bottle each day.
Don't talk to no one. Hide, hide, hide it will go away.
I love you, I need you, I will never forget you.

I must move forward with life, but your memories will live on
Thru me, in me, in my actions each day.
I'm looking forward to being like you--respect, honor and admiration.

Pain, why can't you leave me alone? Why can't I pick up the phone?
What is next in my life? Who will I turn to now?
Come back, come back, I don't want you to go.
