Daddy

How long have I been awake?
Who forgot to just let me dream?
This world in all its beauty
Still can't compare to you, daddy,
To me, without you, all of it is vanity.

You said your love is steadfast,
You said your steadfast love would endure forever,
You said you'd remember me when I'm low,
And now I'm very low.

Daddy, I miss you so much,
Thoughts of you captured my mind tonight,
Longing to hug you, feel your gentle presence and embrace,
But all I can do is remember you and try to write.

Love is what you always had for me
Man of passion, faith and strength,
Man of honor and integrity.

I miss you beyond belief
And every night I mix words and images in poems for you
so I can put to death this overwhelming grief.
