“ Mommy!, Mommy!, Mommy!
Will daddy be home soon?”
“Yes...Yes darling
Surely by this afternoon...”

“Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!
I really just can’t wait!"
I’ve tided up my bedroom floor
And even found my skates

He’s never home for long,
But a little is more than none
With my Daddy on the field,
The battles are soon to be won

Is Daddy a little late?"
His supper is getting cold on his favorite china plate
"Yes... yes dear, only a few hours though
Don’t fret, honey it's only because of the snow"

Waiting... Waiting, Waiting.
For Daddy to arrive
I’ve painted him a picture...
And baked all of his favorite pies.

Knock! Knock! Knock!
Me and Mommy spurt.
"Daddy’s home! Daddy’s home”, I jump and shout with glee...
For only it wasn’t Daddy standing in front of me

Two large grave men, clutching a wooden box,
Had to speak with Mommy, and I only had to watch
Another gift for Daddy?
Or Mommy?Or Me? What's in the box?
I’ll have to wait and see

The door slowly shut, the large men went
Mommy didn’t speak
Her eyes were glossy, and she bent
Like she’d been holding back a waterfall for over a week

"Mommy Mommy Mommy
What is in that box?", Another gift for Daddy, something that sings or talks?
Mommy looked at me and Cried
"Darling Darling Darling, for it is Daddy that's inside."
