Daddy

I can never be the girl you dreamt of
The teenage girl in the pretty dress
With her date and his corsage
Because my date to prom
Will have a dress on too.
I can never be the girl you dreamt of
The grown woman dressed in white
With her fiancé in a tux at the alter
Because my fiancée
Will wear makeup too.
I can never be the girl you dreamt of
The woman now swollen with pride
A child of her own inside her
Because my spouse
Will not be able to.
I will never be the girl you dreamt of
The woman with children blonde as she
Brown eyed like their father
Because my child
Will not resemble me.
I will never be the girl you dreamt of
The girl you always hoped for
When I was small
But daddy, I hope you
Will still love me.
