Dad’s Advice

He was just a very young lad
when he was being told by his Dad,
"Son, listen to the words I have to say.
They will help you later in life someday.
Treat people as you would have them treat you.
This is something you should always do!
Respect is not given. It is something you earn.
This is a lesson that you must learn.
And save your money for a rainy day,
as they are sure to pass your way!"
The son said he would try with all his might
to abide by this advice and would start tonight.
He kept his word he had given his dad,
and this made his father very glad.
This was not the only advice he gave,
but money his son always did save.
And when his dad did eventually die,
the son could not help but cry.
He remembered how wise the man was
and tried to do what a son does.
He passed this advice on to his son
knowing that passing on knowledge is never done!
