Daffodil


Rising through the last cool flakes of winter,
A daffodil announces the coming festival,
Lifting as a song a golden cup,
But before the sycamore awakes,
Fading folds her trumpet
And bows before arriving royal green
A sub season of exuberance
Intensely yellow and gone
