Dark Girls/Warm Black Bodies

girls like me are rarely lucky enough to
have someone to shatter our hearts
girls like me are merely grotesque bodies
on display at the next human zoo
i mean interschool
21 century saartjies
both captive and captivating
bodies to be gawked at, dominated, appropriated
lusted after in low intonations
didn't you know bodies like mine
exist to be daggered and ditched?
don't you know you can only see dark girls in dark rooms?
don't you know love lights on is for light skin?
he didn't know I was nothing but a warm, black body
so i was grateful when he saw me lights on and didn't run
