Dark Within

Has there ever been a part of you that you don't recognize?
Something oozing with regret so deep it's seeping through your eyes.
A part of you so dark and tortured by demons of the past.
This cloak of sadness consumes your being, hidden behind a mask.
You reek of insecurities you try to cover with perfume.
All you are is irrelevant, by who they want, you're consumed.
Have you ever dared to venture into the depths of your own mind?
Cowering at all your mistakes instead of leaving them behind.
You took a peek into the looking glass and screamed at what you saw!
For it was you in another life; you could have had it all!
Had you chosen the path less traveled you never would have failed.
This is a book you shouldn't have opened for now you can't prevail.
