Darkness

Your soul is in the darkness, you're so far in,
I longed to pull you out but all you wanted was my skin
I was burning just to show you, show you the other side,
but darkness always looks for places it can hide,
I kept coming back, coming back for more
hoping always hoping, you'd stop keeping score,
You didn't want to see what lay beneath my skin,
you wanted just to use me & spit me out again,
Not getting what you wanted you set out to bring me down,
laughing at my pain & loving when I'd drown.
With years ahead of you, I've fought this fight before
It happened much like this & left me battle sore,
When I hit the bottom, I found a hand that pulled me through,
it could have been so different if you let me give that hand to you
But your soul is in the darkness, you're so far in,
I longed to pull you out but all you wanted was my skin.
