Daughter

Yes I have a daughter strong and wild,
yes I have a daughter she is my child,
she has goals and dreams and visions you see,
when I look at her, she reminds me of me.
Her walk is strong, her talk is loud, her vision is clear,
yes she is my child.
She is not going to settle for anything less than the best,
she stays up all night passing test after test.
Oh she loves the Lord, I know that is true, she sticks to Him
just like glue, He leads her and guides her through the storms
and the rain, and when she comes out she has plenty to gain.
Yes I have a daughter strong and wild, yes I have a daughter,
she is my child.

This Poems Story

I am fifty-five years old and the mother of two sons and one daughter. Between the two sons I have seven grandchildren, six boys and one girl. My daughter inspired me to write this poem because she has been a hard worker all of her life. She started making her own money at the age of eleven years old. If she saw something she wanted she would get out and have a hotdog or hamburger sale. At the age of five she said she wanted to be a vetrinarian, and when she got out of high school she attended Tuskegee University to do just that; she was the voice for several students who had problems. If they could not go home for the holidays she would invite them to out house. Now she lives in New York. I was so nervous about her being there by herself and so young, but now she has been there three years and she is a singer, song writer, and model. She has grown to be a very strong and mature young woman. And coming up I had to be strong the same way.
