Dear Grandpa

I visited you a few nights ago...
I wanted to see for myself if you were still there.
Sometimes you'd open your eyes.
Sometimes you'd even move a little.
But most of the time,
Your head just gently rested on the hospital pillow.

I wanted to remember you,
So I began to study and memorize every detail of you.
Then today came, and I forgot everything.
My eyes filled with tears and you became a blur.

I watched your heart rate go from 60...
Then the machine started beeping
A red light started flashing!
The lines on the machine were no longer dancing.

You didn't wait for us, you went on your own
And that's how I know, you were ready to go
Enjoy paradise grandpa, I'll see you on the other side.
