Dear Mom

Please promise me that this will be a chapter and not a story,
you must've been terrified ever since the news became confirmatory.
I imagine distance from a piece of you will be hard,
but simply look up at the dark sky and see that it is starred.
Don't you worry about your body being scarred,
for there's a glimmer within each and every shard.
It's frightening how much may change in a day,
but let that be promising to demolish your lenses of gray.
Tomorrow everything may simply fall away,
and at that time you will say,
"I have a beautiful life, I'm a daughter, a mother and a wife,"
and you may add that you have fought,
just don't become something that you're not.
Read your story as it has been scrawled,
and don't fear the beautiful chapter
in which you've always been called.
