Death of a Wolf

I am not afraid to die
As you stand before me, a gun pointed at my eye
For if you shot in another place
My value would erase
You want to sell my fur and meat
You think this kill will taste so sweet
As you stand here before me I will show no fear
As you watch me I watch the deer
I hear the birds sing their song
And watch the squirrels go home, to where they belong
The wind cries out with the trees
How I love the autumn breeze
I turn to look again in your eyes
And hope I look brave in the face of my demise
The sicking bang echoes through the trees
As I tremble and fall down past your knees
I can hear the cry of my brother's howl
And all I can do is lay here and growl
I will not show my pain
I will not give you that gain
I close my eyes
And say my goodbyes
As the shadows take me I show no fear
For this my time, right now and right here
