Decadence

Hit by famine of integrity all around
how can the seed of truth sprout?
Where is to be found the water
of faith in human goodness
to nurture it ? The mildew
of distrust dries up the springs
of fellowship. In the thin crust
cracked with hypocrisy with
layers of callousness underneath
how will the sapling strike roots
and survive? Even if it manages
to keep alive for a while, its
tender shoots will be uprooted
by the blast of blatant self-interest
brazen falsehood and dire double dealing,
hinges on which human relationships
turn in this decadent modern world.
