Departure

Words have shapes
Let’s take a magic carpet ride
Imagine each letter as three-dimensional
Words can take you anywhere
Out in the distance
It’s too dangerous
I won’t go out there
And you can’t make me
All over the suburbs
People live in boxes
She makes hers peculiar
Because she’s covered her walls in poetry
Lining her room
The words run
She writes on the ceiling
All over pieces of sheet rock
As if she can write love letters to the World’s spirit,
She tells her house, “Excuse me while I kiss the sky”
She writes the words over blue paint
As her only way out
The words are a stairway
To face life’s challenges from the wonder of their shapes
