Destiny\'s Gate (English sonnet)

Destiny’s Gate (English sonnet)

into the snowy woods softly I went
where purity of ideas beckoned
into that whiteness alone I was sent
where duty of the heart was thus reckoned

over the senseless mind’s smirking reason
there plying to move the heart to be slave
over hollow sense of purposeful season
there coercing its beat to bow, behave

that now tied no more to its foul command
found that enlightened passion lifted my despair
that under its weight no more could I stand
found that old hope so long without due care

Oh, belated step where destiny waits
shed the old garments and open that gate!
