Detachment

The velvet rope is lifted
By wary eyes
Why are you here?
As I enter the room
Heads turn hungrily
Hearts rock against hollow bones
Echoing--
Dead stares
Winks shot in my direction
I walk through
This place of scars
I find a seat at the counter
"What would you like?"
Safety
Stability
Comfort
Anything but this
Rum on rocks
It never hurts
Anymore
She courses through my veins
An arm slides around my waist
Why are you here?
The velvet rope is lifted
Bodies rock against paralyzed minds
We smooth our scars with detachment
