Disguise

"I tried to stay happy,
I tried to stay proud.
I tried to stay lively,
While out in the crowd.

"I then became lonely,
And then I got sad.
Then came the part,
Where things turned so bad.

"I lay alone,
Alone in my bed.
Then I just cried."
That's all she said.

This is the last time,
She'll ever say,
"I love you Mom and Dad,"
Because that night, she ran away.

She ran so far,
She ran so fast,
She promised herself,
She would forget her past.

Now as she looks,
In her baby girl's eyes,
She promises she'll never show,
Another disguise.
