Distractions

a kilo of coke, a bottle of booze
all the drugs in the world can't save you
a couple more pills, another shot
will never fix your broken parts

a bright light, a party going on
nothing more than a simple distraction
a drink or two, a few too many
can't help your shattered heart

a game is played, a bit too rough
you play it off and try to act tough
a few more sips, a pill slipped in
the room is spinning all over again

a drag off a cigarette, a taste of smoke
something more to calm your nerves
a snort of cocaine, all feeling is lost
you merely pretend not to pay the cost

the drugs, the alcohol
the feeling of feeling nothing at all
the pain is at bay, your body is numb
the game is over, your life is done
