Do we listen
You can hear,
but do you listen?
to the quiet panic,
does it reach your ears?
Do you see the distance?
the words they won’t say stored away like old photos in the attic.
Watch, watch with your heart.
Listen, listen with your soul.
The quiet the stillness the discomfort,
leftover from the confidence someone stole.
Alas, I see you, yes I can hear it,
for I too have felt the haunting invisibility,
that I will never forget,
but see now I have the ability,
to understand those who are also with it.
Do we listen?
Do we watch?
For all the subtle signs?
I watch,
I listen,
I won’t let you say goodbye.
but do you listen?
to the quiet panic,
does it reach your ears?
Do you see the distance?
the words they won’t say stored away like old photos in the attic.
Watch, watch with your heart.
Listen, listen with your soul.
The quiet the stillness the discomfort,
leftover from the confidence someone stole.
Alas, I see you, yes I can hear it,
for I too have felt the haunting invisibility,
that I will never forget,
but see now I have the ability,
to understand those who are also with it.
Do we listen?
Do we watch?
For all the subtle signs?
I watch,
I listen,
I won’t let you say goodbye.
