Don’t Be Afraid

It’s a funny thing, fear.
It creeps in and consumes you
Making it hard to breathe, hard to speak
I have so much to tell you,
But fear holds me back.
Silent tears roll of my cheek as we lie in darkness
Afraid to say what we’re feeling
Using empty words to ease the pain.
Fear comes and goes as it pleases
Taunting us with brief moments of courage
Only we are too naïve, too heavy hearted
And we miss our chance to be brave.
It’s a funny thing, fear.
It’s constantly bringing me closer to you.
