Don’t Be Stupid

"Don't be stupid"
That's what I told him
That's the only thing I could get out before he walked out the door
Before he went out to smoke, or drink, or do drugs
Again
I didn't tell him to stay
I didn't tell him not to go
I didn't tell him that I thought he wasn't gonna come back
I didn't tell him that I think that every time he goes out
I didn't stop him
I didn't grab him
Didn't even get out of my seat
I had no idea if that was the last time I would see him
I had no idea what was gonna happen
I hadn't told him I loved him
But then again I don't remember the last time I told him that
I should've told him to stay
I should've told him not to go
I should've told him that I thought he wasn't gonna come back
I should've told him that I never do
I should've stopped him
I should've grabbed him
I could've at least gotten out of my seat
But I didn't
And when he did come back, I didn't say anything
"Don't be stupid"
That's what I told him
That's all that I told him
