Don’t Make Me Rhyme

By Calypso    Calypso

Don't make me rhyme!
Don't tell me that sentences make a poem!
Allude , symbolize, make metaphors immortal,
But don't tell me that something is "nice."
That simple words will suffice...
That there is no onomatopoeia,
Or that there are no pockets full of posies.
Like the ringing of the bell that rang for each man
On The Edmund Fitzgerald, words echo in whispers
Throughout the ages in poems that shed light
On how blind and deaf man is.

I keep asking myself what makes a poem, a poem?
