Dorian Grays

The sordid lie
Flowing from her lips
Tore my heart in two
It seemed so surreal
"I love you"
When we last embraced
You left a piece of you that still lingers
A scent
A presence
Or maybe even your essence

I could never understand
Why good are harmed
The innocent
The righteous
Do we not choose to see the heart's content?
Many walk around
Copycats of a Dorian Gray
Beautiful
Chic
Unapologetic for their hurtful beauty
Unattainable to love
However
Deep in their hearts
Lies their true selves
A portrait of sin and disdain in a human figure
