Dragon Flight

One night I saw you in the air up high,
Twisting your scales through the misty bright clouds,
Smiling down at me, but I could not fly,
Though you didn't know as my cries are not loud.

The same wind you love seems to hold me right down,
My stubborn roots never fail to grow back.
No one expects me to do more than frown,
They don't wonder if I miss what I lack.

I once grew a tree full of citrus gold,
Not realizing what wealth I did own.
Lemonade for the kids who do as told,
None for those who've only been all alone.

I may never have what I see all night,
Stuck watching you in your grand dragon flight.
