Dream Poetry

Beauty is truth, truth beauty, — that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.
~ John Keats

She comes to him in a dream
Surrounded by soft light
Startling in her beauty
Tall and slender
Porcelain skin aglow
Auburn hair swept back
Hazel eyes sparkling
A white evening gown
Modest décolletage
A single strand of pearls around her neck
White orchid on her wrist.

She is across the room
She gazes at him
Holds out a hand
Smiles warmly
He walks toward her
Walks and walks
She’s moving away
Calls out to him
Her words are lost
Wrapped in the light
She turns away
Disappears.

He wakens
The dream lingers for a moment
Is the beautiful lady real
Imagined
A thought
Poetry
An elusive ideal
Beyond capture?

She came to him in a dream
Surrounded by soft light —
And then she was gone.
