Drowning

I’m drowning.

I seem to have lost
The ability to swim.

I struggle
For forever
But to no avail.

I give up,
Let it consume me,
Allow myself
To sink.

My mind is chilled,
My bones are frozen,
My lungs are burning.

I relish these last feelings.

But wait.
What’s this warmth?
Firm fingers grasp my arm.

You pull me
To the surface
Yet again.

Damn you.
