Duty

Oversees the dead of night
Till the sun has met twilight
Holds fast to all he’s ever known
Staying on guard just as a stone
His heart is clear, his mind holds strong
Whistling on his favorite song
The task at hand is never too great
Compassion toward all, never berate
He knows his limits and his boundaries
Always familiar with his surroundings
No act of God will cause surrender
His duty as strong as his love is tender
Through thick and thin, in dark and light
He will not lose his path tonight
Fear and greed have left his soul
Pride and justice have left him whole
Focused he remains with each passing breath
No signs or traces of foredooming death
But if he shall fall forever tonight
His soul shall rise as a guiding light
