Wistful for blue,
A cloudless palette,
A false start on a ramble,
The fakeout,
New Year.

Treading water I float,
Shaking hands with the tide,
The violent swell of a pandemic,
“Fuck your stride.”

“Home” is a cage,
On an island
I drown.
A perch on the sill,
Robins flirting,
No sound.

A new season unfolds,
A sip of fresh air,
A calling to self,
May we dismantle despair.

A brick with toes,
I apex the bend,
An unearthed mirage,
A new element,
An end.

A time for resurgence,
Sealegs be damned,
A scramble, a ruckus,

Paradox of joy jostling grief,
Power through, take it easy,
Exhaustion, relief.

In spite of it all,
Blood and sand,
A seed cracked open,
My garden,
New land.
