Eleven-Eleven

Eleven-Eleven

Today I watched the clock change from 11:10
To 11:11 but for once I did not close my eyes
Because today I stopped wishing for you.

I spent the last several months
Wishing for you to love me back
Every time the numbers on the clock matched up

As I wished, I imagined that your lips
would taste like toothpaste every morning
And mine would taste would taste like my everyday cup of joe
And even though you’d never drink coffee
you’d never learn to live without the taste.

Today I watched the clock change from 11:11
To 11:12 but for once I did not feel sad at the loss
Of making my wish
I decided that if you do not love me
It’s your burden, not mine.

Today I stopped wishing for you.
