Empty Walls

Shadows stretch across empty walls
where memories once roamed
in frozen frameworks so uniform
and comforting to unsearching eyes.

Precious to those individuals
who never look too deeply at the details;
The ones who believe the beauty
in every heartbreakingly fake smile.
Yet hold their head high in pride
when the truth all comes flooding out,
claiming they knew every devastating detail
before tragedy came to light.

And these people are regarded as the caring ones;
a concept to be laughed at by those of us
who suffered from the inside.

Now the bare walls reflect the bitter reality
of a secretly broken home.
And those people who enjoyed the pictures,
Those "caring ones"
they shudder in self-righteous denial
at the sight of those empty walls
