Essential

By

You are essential I heard them say
Havent nurses always been that way?
This is different they said-out of breath
We need you to now risk sickness and death.
Bad things to be seen;deaths that occur
You are the last one some will see-for sure.
The hours grew longer with so much at risk
The numbers climbed fast-all those sick.
Then slowly and surely
They began to decline.
Eventually we left the worst horrors behind.
We have all lost friends; viruses dont care
You turn around-to see who is still there.
The world now has changed
There are masks everyday.
Nothing will ever be normal ,they say.
You are essential, and play a big part
We are asking that you give your whole heart.
We answered the call, as we did everyday-
We are essential-we dont run away.
