Every Breath

Missing you with every breath
Whether I sleep or am awake
Longing earnestly for only you
In two my heart does break

Empty seconds, minutes, hours
Turn to emptier days and weeks
Time stretching ever onward
Loneliness and longing, the company I keep

Wishing with every breath I take
Your presence beside me, to erase
This aching deep within my heart
Free me now, I plead my case

My heart lay in pieces at your feet
Will you pick them up and mend them back?
Make them whole with your love?
Or sweep them up like bits of trash?

Here I stand, waiting breathlessly
To see whatever you will do
Hoping and praying the choice you make
Brings joy and love, fresh and new
