Every Life Has Value

My heart is like the heart of my parents
One living, one dead
They taught me well
Well enough to know right from wrong
They told me wherever you go in life,
do one thing only, treat people right
They told me to always respect myself,
and don't follow others bent on doing wrong
To have a sense of purpose
To reach outward beyond myself
Reminding me constantly that a Christian's duty
is always to help someone else
Every life has value,
they would often say
Every life's worth a lot,
even if that person doesn't see it that way
There was a time or two in my life
when I was a tormented soul ready to check out
Somehow my parents always had time to comfort me,
until I finally understood their message of love
Finally grasped the meaning of what
every life having value was all about
