Even buildings with the strongest foundations,
With cornerstones of steel,
And support beams abound
Must fall down.
Identical principles govern my heart
Your heart, his soul, her mind.
We build ourselves up
With self-praise and self-pity.
Try to ignore the rocks they throw at us
But our hearts are not unbreakable indestructible stone.
They are glass.
Beautiful and fragile and damaged.
Crack, crack, crack!
Each pebble is a boulder
Hurtling toward us,
We tumble down, down, down.
