Expectations

Intoxicated by society,
Our thoughts become distorted more and more,
The world is less of a variety,
We are all judged from surface to the core.
The useless effort made to look our best,
To hide all imperfections and all flaws,
It's only ever dressing to impress,
Identity has turned to a lost cause.
We fear the way that we are being judged,
Unable to gain any confidence,
Desires to be free, to be naïve,
To ignore the public's incompetence.
Though, is it our fears that hold us back?
Or ignorance and confidence we lack?
