faces

sometimes when you're sitting
alone in your room,
your head on your pillows
your heart on the floor,
you hear the world laughing
so you go with the flow.

you head to your insides
and browse for a mask
hallelujah, you've found just the one.

inside your head there is
a little voice that says,
"hey you! take a look at my
face, i'm happy on the outside
and you're falling for it too."

so you head away
to go on with the day
a laugh here and a laugh there
yet it is all just a play
because inside, reality is at bay.

you open the door into your old home
you remove the face that others embrace
you look in the mirror
and you see your true self
a broken figure that never feels safe
who wants to please others
so faces she fakes.
