Fading Child

We drag ourselves into ruin
as life’s reality is presented
in the form of our greatest hero’s when we
learn they're villains in someone world
our monsters were not slain
but led into a witches lab where she would
make it small and change its
manifestation and send it back up in a bubble

popped by the
childish stories that
we giggled at and read with high hopes
nudging us toward insanity- or
believing we are insane- as the plot becomes
present in our own lives with a
dark twist. Why did I trust them?
the rainbows are pulled from the skies and
the butterflies caught and killed to be observed
for scientific purposes
What can I be prescribed to make what was real
what is real
and forget that my knight in shining armor and I
would live happily never after

because he was the dragon all along.
