Fall Missed By A Soldier

Feeling the cool breeze among my cheeks,
The sun is still shining trying to warm the world.
But the leaves have already started changing into the colors of Fall.
Realizing that someone loved is not here to enjoy this weather.
He's gone to battle, to protect the Nation we love.
So, as I sit and watch the tree lines sway and leaves fall,
I am thinking of him and where he could be at,
Knowing that the scenery he's seeing isn't his cup of tea.
He sees sand, dirt, houses almost fallen in,
He remains tactful and in charge of a squad,
That sees no homesickness in his eyes.
Deep down he misses the States.
Misses his home in North Carolina, the family he left behind,
The travels that are waiting to be experienced.
One day soon, he will land at the airport
Family waiting and be ready to live the life,
He's been waiting to have.
The red, white, and blue stand for so much.
To him, it's protecting from foreign and domestic enemies
To me, it's remembering him every time I see a flag
To my son, it's a hero in a uniform, whose everything and more.
