Fallen But Not Forgotten

Fingers of different sizes brushing engraved names
Medals left to fallen brothers
Letters stained with tears to unknown family
Pencil lead scratching over paper
Cries of despair over lost family members
Guilt stricken lieutenants and soldiers
"He hated himself. He loved her more
than his men, and as a consequence
they were dead"
Reflected pain of survivors, crying for their brothers
Child's toys leaning against the wall, flags pressed into the earth
Faces and hands pressed against the black marble
Lips calling out the names of loved ones
Sons and brothers, uncles and grandpas
Friends and cousins lost
Lost to the cruelty of war
