Our bodies are only things in the way,
vestigial obstacles.
I push against space towards you,
and I feel the air stretch as you push back,
across the void
a cloud of hair, teeth, and fingernails,
Russian dolls played by a child.
We are birds in a cage.
Did you forget
what they told you
before you were born?
